The Last Supper

Created for the Closing Party of MPA-B 2014, DAS ENDE, this food installation called The Last Supper aimed to create a landscape representing the profusion of paradise’s buffets.

Equiped with long fork-spoon/spikes, people had to feed each other, referring to the biblical allegory of the long spoons. In short, only the good who accepted to help each other eating would survive in paradise, the others would be condamned to starve, paradise therefor becoming hell. The party animals had to feed each other to survive through the night, creating a performative and participative atmosphere around the installation.

Working on diversity, colors, flamboyance, this buffet created on a long table around the Tree of Popcorn/Life was set-up in the middle of the beautiful Delphi Stummfilmkino in Weisensee, Berlin.

For the love of meat

fortheloveoffood7

J’ai découvert le documentaire « Did cooking make us human » (BBC).

La performance For the love of Meat présentée durant For the Love of Food a été créée pour interroger le spectateur sur ses habitudes alimentaires.

I came upon the BBC documentary called « Did cooking make us human ». It is about a scientific theory that says the human species began to evolve when they began eating meat, and then, began cooking.

Among the scientific community, it is accepted that the introduction of meat in our ancestor’s diet increased their intelligence and caused their brains to grow.
Indeed, meat has a more concentrated form of energy that allowed our ancestors to spend less time looking for food. This energy was used by their body to evolve by an augmentation of their brain size and therefor, their intelligence.

The performance « For the love of Meat » during For the Love of Food was made to interrogate the viewer about diet habits.
After eating fruits using a stone, I stood up, fetched a steak in the fridge and ate it with my bare hands. As I teared the meat apart with my teeth, masticating, I watched, one after the other, each person in the crowd for a few seconds. Those eye contact were reinforced by the power of the savage act of eating raw meat with my hands. In those eyes, I saw a mixed feeling of fascination, disgust for some and attraction or even erotic tension for others.
The act of eating meat is a reminder of our common ancestors’ way of eating: hunters, meat eaters.
However, eating meat felt like doing something extreme, almost subversive.
After it, most people said they were afraid for me, pitied me for inflicting myself such a task and asked if I felt sick.

How did eating meat became a subversive action that make people feel sick and guilty?

In France, where the gastronomy is part of everyday life, eating meat is a celebration. When I was a kid, it was always chicken on wednesdays, fish on fridays, and a roastbeef on sundays. Christmas is a feast for meat and seafood eaters, with oysters, smoked salmon, lobster for starters, foie gras, the utmost sin, followed by a main dish, often goose, wild boar, duck, deer, or other game. Then, the most fantasied cheese platter than make us french so famous.
When you go in restaurant, you choose your meat or fish and then the side dish.
One of my favorite meal is a basic omelet with raped cheese, cream and « lardons », small smoked pork sticks…
Am I a monster to those who pledge their life to veganism? Am I the enemy? Am I to be converted?

There is so many ways to eat, to cook, to live. I am a meat eater. I respect other people’s choice, but I don’t think I’ll ever go vegetarian, let alone vegan. If one day, we cannot buy animal products anymore in markets for ethical, economical or ecological reasons, I’ll raise my chickens in my yard and get a cow for milk.
Maybe I’ll start a black market, and people will come to my house to buy eggs under the counter. They will have to pay me a lot for the risk I am taking.

In the meantime, I will still get that judging look from my vegetarian friends whenever I go out eating with them and take the meat option.

For the love of food (MPA-B 2014)

Pour l’amour de la nourriture! / For the love of food!

For the love of food concept

Food performs, food performed, performing food, performed food… a flea market of live aphrodisiacs, phagy rituals, food post-porno, there might just be something for every taste. An eclectic mix of people working and playing with food will gather at the MPA-B HUB, Holzmarkt25 Ding Dong Dom – like herbs and spices in a rice bowl – and simultaneously create a spectrum of edible acts and stories. Departing from each’s specific approach and experiences with food, a constellation of unique narratives weave together in one place, where the link of the end product to be consumed and its process of production is made sensible in the form of rituals that bound the sacred and profane. Durational and prompt performances cooked by locals from Berlin, both alien, native or in-between, for the love of food!

The Dressing Beauty

La Poulette présente: The Dressing Beauty

La Poulette presents: The Dressing Beauty

For the end of Month of Performance Art Berlin 2013, I have been invited to perform as Das Shift by Leen Horsford and Amy Cade (Us inc. association) on the 29th May. This night is all about gender and sexuality…
The Dressing beauty will be a reinterpretation of a strip tease. As a negative, with a dark light ambiance, you will see me dress up in white, discovering my silhouette in the dark. Singing along, Malene Bank, Signe Mortensen and Julie Rex will reinforce this atmosphere of girl power, as four women getting ready to go out partying or flirting.

A foreplay performance, to think about how feminity can be empowered by dressing up and how the feminity passes along the ages through ancestral gestures and tradition.

Merci. No right of using and sharing this picture without my previous accord. Thanks.

The Chick presents: I have always wanted to present…

IMG_1361 IMG_1368 IMG_1372

Thanks to the people who all along 2012, participated to the performances around the theme “I have always wanted to…”, i was able to present for my DNSEP a performance called “I have always wanted to present…”
This performance is made by accounts or stories of each person, who tells his experience of the performances he saw or participated to.
The audience, in a listening condition, becomes the receiver of a testimony, a confident. Either touched by the story or not, he is nontheless interpellated, which brings him to a relfexion around this theme of envy and energy-releasing actions.

Merci à / Thanks to :

Alice, Audrey, Bérénice, Dounia, Félix, Hugo, Lucie, Mathilde M, Mathilde L, Michaël, Victor, and to Paul de Lanzac for the pictures

Cache-cache / Hide and seek

The Chick presents: I always wanted to play hide and seek

An outlet saturday afternoon, fifteen people integrating into the crowd of customers for an afternoon of hide and seek. Hide from friends, from customers, from sellers.

Stay fifteen minutes under a bed, behind a carpet or under a table, get discovered in a wardrobe by a couple, get envyed by children.

Enjoy an industrial playground and get back to childhood for a few hours, without paying mind to other people’s opinion.
